College can be an overwhelming time for students. It is the first time many move out of the house and away from the watchful eye of their parents. College is also a very busy time between juggling classes, sports, and a social life it is hard to practice good health and wellness. Below are some tips for staying healthy in college:

  • Drink Water: Drinking water can help you stay concentrated and stop you from overeating. Stay hydrated by bringing a water bottle to class.
  • Take Vitamins: A multi-vitamin can help provide nutrients you are missing from your diet. Vitamin C can also help boost your immune system.
  • Eat Healthy: Don’t just grab a slice of pizza everyday! Vary your meals and take the healthier option whenever possible. (Also, keep nourishing snacks laying around your room)
  • Exercise: Most college campuses offer many opportunities to workout. Head to the gym to take advantage of free classes, use the stairs instead of elevator, or go outside to hike or play Frisbee! An hour of exercise a day can make a big difference in the long run.
  • Get a Full Night of Sleep: Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep whenever possible in order to increase concentration and productivity.
  • Wash your Hands: Washing your hands regularly can prevent the spread of illness, especially while living in the dorms.

Incorporate these easy tips into your daily routine in order to stay healthy, prevent illness, and avoid the dreadful freshman 15. For more advice on health and wellness, visit https://healthservices.camden.rutgers.edu/topics_wellness.
